Decorating With Balloons
By Leah Steenstra
Balloons are an inexpensive and festive option for
reception decorations.
Below are a few do-it-yourself ideas as well as
ideas you can share with your balloon decorator.
On your own:
-
For centerpieces, string up four helium-filled
balloons that coordinate with your wedding
colors. Use bags filled with sand as your anchor
or rocks covered with tulle and ribbon.
-
Create a canopy above the dance floor using tulle and
multi-colored balloons. Consider releasing the
balloons during a strategic part of the
reception.
-
With wire, fashion the shape of a heart. Tie small
helium-filled balloons to the wire, clip the
string so it can’t be seen and hang with
decorative ribbon from the ceilings.
With the help of a professional:
-
Accentuate your dance floor with a pillar of balloons
at each corner. Choose two colors and create
upward diagonal stripes.
-
Make your grand entrance through an archway of
balloons. For a more spectacular appearance,
line up several arches in a row to create a
balloon tunnel.
-
Frame your wedding cake with a heart archway. The
heart is anchored to the cake table, made with
helium-filled balloons and should be large
enough that the cake can easily fit underneath.
-
String rows of balloons diagonally from each corner of
the reception hall. In the middle, make a
cluster of balloons that will act as the focal
point of the entire creation.
Clusters of balloons can also be used to cover up
unsightly spots at your reception site. So, instead
of talking about cracks in the wall or the messy DJ
table, your guests will be raving about the gorgeous
and creative decorations!
