Engagement Rings

Engagement Rings to Make Her Say “Yes”
By Christina Williams

You don't mind her little quirks, bad jokes, or morning breath because you love everything about her. You look into her timeless eyes, and realize this is the woman of your dreams whom you want to spend the rest of your life with. You look forward to her intoxicating laugh, and you want to make her smile more than she ever has before. In short, you want to pop the question with the most brilliant engagement ring ever conceived. So how do you find the perfect ring for your perfect girl?

Choosing Wisely Just for Her
Before you head out to the jewelry stores, you may want to do a little thinking and possible research for what her ideal engagement ring may be. After all, this will (hopefully) be the only one she ever receives. It can be mind-boggling how women's tastes can vary so drastically from one to another, but if you are asking your dream girl to marry you, you probably have an idea of what she likes. The jewelry a lady wears is often a reflection of her personality.

If your potential fiancé likes fairy tales full of vivid images of a maiden with long golden locks being rescued from the tower by her knight in shining armor, then a princess cut diamond might be the way to go. Perhaps, she is a nature lover who prefers flowers to jewelry (lucky you). If so, then maybe you should consider a delicate custom setting placed in the center of a flower. If your girlfriend lives for style and loves to trust her expensive tastes while shopping at any chance she gets, you may want to think big and look at what the latest multiple carat engagement ring trends are.

If you are completely unfamiliar with diamond terminologies (such as cut, weight, or carat), then don’t fret. The salespeople at the jewelry store will gladly educate you. You may also wish to ask for advice from her mother, sisters, or best girlfriends. Just be careful not to reveal your intentions to anyone who cannot keep secrets hidden, if you don’t want the surprise spoiled. If there is no one to ask, and you are completely baffled on what your girlfriend will like, then take a look at the type of jewelry she wears. Also use this opportunity to take a mental note on whether she prefers silver, yellow gold, white gold, or platinum.

Beautiful Rings within Your Budget
Three carat diamonds set in platinum are not within everyone’s financial means. There are other alternatives, however, if you want to present an engagement ring she will absolutely love and that you can afford. Vintage styles are always popular, and they can offer a romantic and classic quality. Another option is to use your grandmother’s engagement ring or one from your future bride’s side of the family. This may go over well if she loves tradition. You can then purchase her a new ring for your first anniversary, if you choose. Some jewelry stores offer credit options, with payment plans you can apply for as well, if you absolutely must go for multiple carats. Just keep in mind that your debts become hers as well once you are married; therefore, you should finance wisely.

Diamonds are not the only option for engagement rings. (This is not a suggestion for you to go out and purchase a cubic zirconium, by any means.) Some women prefer colored precious stones to white diamonds. If your future fiancé adores emeralds more than diamonds, for example, you may wish to surprise her with a very unique emerald engagement ring. She can later choose a wedding band encrusted with diamonds to add nice little accents around the emerald centerpiece, if she wishes. There are also colored diamonds, but they can be rare and quite expensive. Still, if you have the money to spare, a pink or yellow diamond engagement ring will most definitely be a delightful surprise.

If you absolutely have no idea what to purchase, you can always buy a simple gold band to pop the question, and then take your future bride shopping to let her pick out her dream engagement ring. This is not the most favored option. After all, you are asking her to take a chance on you. So why not take a chance of your own, and ask her to spend the rest of her days with you, while presenting her with a ring she will find hard to resist at the same exact moment?
