All across
the country brides and grooms like you are getting married.
What's the latest and greatest in weddings? Modern Bride
tracked the trends by talking to vendors from coast to coast.
Here, what's hot in flowers and lighting.
Budding
news
-
Flowers are all about color as brides are turning toward
bolder hues
that complement their outgoing personalities. Fall and
summer brides are opting for sunset colors such as burnt
orange, gold, and tangerine. They're also going for cobalt
blues, wines and violets. Spring and winter brides are
choosing yellow, hot pink, apricot and peach.
-
Brides
are also grabbing
bigger—more
generous—bouquets as they head down the
aisle.
-
Centerpieces are gaining personality
and texture. Spring brides are selecting fruits (apples,
oranges, or lemons) and flowers or using blooming branches
(cherry, apple, dogwood, and quince). Fall and winter brides
are adding ferns, moss and pinecones. Summer brides are
incorporating seashells and starfish.
-
More
attention is being paid to the
flower containers—and
they don't all have to match. At a recent Chicago wedding,
32 different soup tureens—found at different garage
sales—were used to hold the centerpieces.
-
Some
couples are doing away with florals and choosing to have
appetizers
placed in the center of the table. These range from
antipasto trays to cheese fondues (couples later fill that
space with desserts).
Light it
up
-
Small
spotlights
(called pinspotting) on the centerpieces, which make them
pop, are being used at more and more receptions.
-
Colored lights
are also becoming the rage. These are used to subtly change
the mood throughout a reception. Couples gradually change
the lights from a sunrise look, using red, orange and yellow
attachments over the light fixtures to a green, blue and
purple sunset. Others stick with one color theme throughout
the reception. One bride from Chicago loves blue so much
that she had fabric-covered columns in the reception hall
pinspotted in a very pale blue.
-
Some couples are doing it up Hollywood-style, having their
names projected
in lights on a wall or dance floor.
